That display was replaced by a week of mini displays, including five-minute fireworks shows in each of the five boroughs and a live finale above the Empire State Building on July 4.The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade has been hosted annually on the streets of New York City since 1924 and televised by NBC since 1953. In addition to featuring a number of oversized balloon characters and elaborate floats, the event serves as a showcase of current Broadway productions and popular musical acts.&nbsp;2019's event drew more than 3.5 million spectators in the Big Apple and 50 million television viewers nationwide.advertisingThe parade is the by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, following the cancellation of the Greenwich Village Halloween Parade, which was expected to see participation numbers close to 50,000.
