Monroe News-StarView CommentsThe Louisiana Sheriffs' Association is standing with Donald Trump in its first presidential endorsement in the organization's history.Louisiana's sheriffs met via Zoom on Wednesday and followed that with a vote by email in which they backed the Republican president's reelection bid.The sheriffs routinely make endorsements for governor and have backed Democratic Gov. John Bel Edwards in both of his races. Edwards' brother Daniel Edwards is the Tangipahoa Parish sheriff.But the organization said endorsing a presidential candidate is a first. Trump carried Louisiana easily in 2016 and is expected to win here again on Nov. 3.“President Trump has repeatedly sided with law and order," said association President Jason Ard, president of Livingston Parish. "The men and women who choose to serve and protect across our great country know we have a proven leader in Donald J. Trump."We endorse a leader who supports our mission of working with citizens to maintain safer communities.”Trump has portrayed himself as the "law and order" candidate and has been hesitant to criticize law enforcement&nbsp;during protests over police shootings of Black men that have fueled the Black Lives Matter movement.He's called protests that have turned violent "domestic terror" and "anti-American."But Democratic nominee Joe Biden and others have accused Trump of fear-mongering and fanning the flames of unrest.“Donald Trump has failed to protect America. So now he’s trying to scare the hell out of America,” Biden said earlier this week. “Violence isn’t a problem in Donald Trump’s eyes.
