Officials said they were made aware of the positive test on Wednesday, according to a letter that was sent to parents.The student, who is in 12th grade, does not ride a school bus, and was assigned to the group that attends school in-person on Tuesdays and Thursdays.“Obviously, given our current context, we’re prepared and had been planing for our first case, in some ways we knew it was inevitable," said Naugatuck Superintendent of schools Chris Montini.He said he doesn’t know when the student got tested, or if the student knew when they were exposed, but it’s the district’s policy that if you’re getting tested, you should stay home until you get the results.Since finding out the news, Montini said they’ve been working with the Naugatuck Valley Health District“We’re going to collaborate with them, engage in contact tracing, we’re going to deep clean our school and on Friday, we’ll communicate with our school community, the status for in person learning on Monday,” Montini said.District leaders said all classrooms and physical spaces were cleaned and sanitized after dismissal on Tuesday, and in between classes today.The school is also being deep cleaned.Until further notice, all Naugatuck High School students will participate in distance learning.“Safety is our first priority, period, and we’re working tirelessly to implement the mitigation strategies and safety protocols to slow the spread," Montini said.Contact tracing is ongoing, but a few other students who rode in a car to school with that student are quarantining.&nbsp;During the school building closure, all after-school activities are postponed.The principal will be reaching out to parents to give an update on when students and staff will be allowed back in the building, with the hope of that happening on Monday.Copyright 2020 WFSB (Meredith Corporation).
