They bring the county’s total number of cases to 72,860, including 934 deaths.The deaths include four people from Dallas: two men in their 50s, a woman in her 60s and a man in his 80s. The men all lived in long-term care facilities.The others who died were a Garland man in his 60s, a Garland woman in her 80s, a Lancaster woman in her 70s and a Duncanville man in his 50s. The Lancaster woman also lived in a long-term care facility.The county reported that from Aug. 8 through Aug. 21, 393 school-age children tested positive for the virus; about half were high-school age. According to the county, ZIP codes of their residences show that 203 would be DISD students.The county reported that the share of COVID-19 tests that were positive for the virus was dropping but was still high at 11.3%. According to Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson, 4,189 of the city’s hospital beds, or 71%, were occupied. He also said on Twitter that 33% of the city’s ventilators were in use.Wednesday, the county lowered its risk assessment level to orange, or “moderate risk.”County Judge Clay Jenkins said on Twitter that to keep infections low, it was important for residents not to celebrate the coming holiday weekend with large gatherings.“In order to continue seeing the sort of gains that will get less people sick, get more businesses thriving, and more schoolchildren back in the classroom, we need to make smart decisions this Labor Day weekend,” Jenkins said. “As you celebrate Labor Day, please do it responsibly. That means wearing a mask 100% of the time when around people outside your household and maintaining 6-foot distancing.”Statewide, the Texas Department of State Health Services reported 3,899 new cases for a total of 625,347, and 221 new deaths for a total of 13,091.Related:Tarrant County reported 227 new cases and two deaths Thursday.The people who died were from Fort Worth — a man in his 60s and a woman in her 80s — and had underlying health conditions. The county now has had 562 deaths from COVID-19.The new cases bring the county’s total to 42,297, according to Tarrant County Public Health.Collin County reported 79 new cases and no new deaths Thursday.The new numbers bring the county’s case count to 11,198, including 625 active ones and 10,573 recoveries. The county has reported 114 deaths.In recent weeks, however, the county has said it is not confident in the data provided by the state.Denton County reported 82 new cases Thursday, bringing its total to 10,422. The county said 103 more people had recovered from the virus, bringing the number of recoveries to 8,513.No new deaths were reported, leaving the total at 101, according to Denton County Public Health.The county will offer free drive-through testing the next two Fridays, starting at 8 a.m. at the University of North Texas’ Discovery Park, at 3940 N.
