The storm&nbsp;swept across&nbsp;Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Michigan before losing steam."We saw the worst of the wind here in Iowa," said Naig, citing information&nbsp;from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.Iowa farmers with damaged crops will face a lot of headaches trying to harvest this year's crop, especially as they try to salvage&nbsp;flattened corn, said&nbsp;Naig. He spoke to reporters Wednesday along with Iowa State University Extension agronomists Meaghan Anderson and Mark Licht."Nearly every acre of corn is affected in some way or another," Anderson said, adding that Iowa's damaged soybean crop may still recover.&nbsp;Growers will have to decide within the next couple of weeks whether they will try to harvest the corn crop as forage to feed to animals, or if it's healthy enough to harvest for grain, said Licht, an ISU crop specialist.More:Yields for the damaged corn, he said, could be 100 to 150 bushels per acre. Iowa corn growers were expected to average 202 bushels per acre, a Department of Agriculture&nbsp;forecast Wednesday said. The report was based on conditions through Aug. 1.The challenge, Naig said, will be getting whatever "yield that's in the field into the combine," given the difficulty of harvesting corn the wind pushed&nbsp;down.Many farmers will need to turn to insurance to help cover their losses, he&nbsp;said.
