By | | Bay Area News GroupOAKLAND — A U.S. Postal Service employee was unhurt after getting robbed at gunpoint in an East Oakland neighborhood, authorities said Tuesday.Around 2:30 p.m., the carrier was working in the 2000 block of 34th Avenue in the city’s Peralta Hacienda neighborhood when a person with a gun approached, said Inspector Jeff Fitch, a spokesman for the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the postal service’s law-enforcement division.Citing an ongoing investigation, Fitch was not able to corroborate reports of several mail trays containing packages, letters and magazines taken, or any description of a suspect, direction of flight or associated vehicle.The postal carrier was not injured, and the postal inspection service is offering a $50,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of a suspect, Fitch said.“It’s very rare but it does happen,” he said of Tuesday’s robbery, “and it’s why we have the reward we do. The safety of our employees is our No. 1 priority, especially while working on the streets.”On Presidents’ Day in February, a woman mail carrier making special deliveries was assaulted and robbed of mail in the 1900 block of Oxford Street in Berkeley.
