A Chicago Black Lives Matter organizer defended the widespread weekend — as “reparation.”“I don’t care if somebody decides to loot a Gucci’s or a Macy’s or a Nike because that makes sure that that person eats. That makes sure that that person has clothes,” Ariel Atkins said at a rally outside the South Loop police station Monday, local outlets reported.“That’s a reparation,” Atkins said. “Anything they want to take, take it because these businesses have insurance.”She also criticized the Rev. Jesse Jackson, who took to Twitter earlier Monday to denounce the “pillaging, robbing &amp; looting” as “humiliating, embarrassing &amp; morally wrong.”“Jesse Jackson has nothing to do with Black Lives Matter,” Atkins shot back.“Jesse Jackson was not there for the creation of Black Lives Matter. Jesse Jackson can keep his opinions to himself.”The rally was held in the that saw 100 arrests and 13 police officers injured in clashes with looters after a 20-year-old man was shot and wounded by cops on Sunday.Police , who was hit in the shoulder after opening fire on cops, according to authorities.Allen was recovering at the University of Chicago Hospital Tuesday and is expected to survive — to face attempted- murder charges.Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown said more than 400 officers were deployed to stop the looting after Allen was shot.Police said the officers involved in the shooting did not have body cameras on, and are asking the community for any eyewitnesses or video footage of the incident.Mayor Lori Lightfoot called the looting “shocking, disheartening, and quite frankly enraging” in a Twitter video late Monday.“To those that engaged in this criminal activity, it was wrong and outrageous,” she said. “I pray that you recognize the pain that you have caused. But I also promise you that we will find you and bring you to justice.”The rioting prompted the city to that blanket the area with cops and restrict access to downtown Chicago from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. as of MondayThe measures also call for bus service to be suspended, highway ramps to be closed, and all but seven of the 18 Loop drawbridges in the city to remain up — with police checkpoints.
