TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) - UPDATE: Law enforcement follows up on leads after a fire started by fireworks Sunday night burned about 6 acres near the Shoshone Falls Grade.Fire crews responded the grade going to Shoshone Falls Park shortly after 9 p.m. Crews had the fire under control by about 10:30 p.m., according to Twin Falls Fire Department Battalion Chief Ron Aguirre.Aguirre said the department received a lot of support from the Twin Falls Police Department and Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Office who helped evacuate residents and escort people at the park out of the area. No one was injured. A residential house was threatened, but not damage.The fire was reportedly started by juveniles throwing fireworks from a car. The sheriff's office spoke with several witnesses and is actively investigating, according to sheriff's office spokeswoman Lori Stewart.Once the fire was contained, fire crews conducted mop up and overhaul operations. Aguirre said the last crew cleared the scene Monday at about 3 a.m.Rock Creek Fire Protection District responded with two wildland firefight crews. Filer Fire Department responded with two wildland firefighting crew. Twin Falls Fire responded with three structure engines, one water tender and three wildland crews.Twin Falls Fire Department later sent a crew Monday morning to clean up a couple hots pots identified by the sheriff’s office, Aguirre said.INITIAL STORY:Rock Creek Fire and the Twin Falls Fire Department are on the scene of a brush fire along Shoshone Falls Grade Road.The fire started around 9 p.m., Sunday evening, and a KMVT reporter on scene saw multiple residents of homes in the area waiting at the top of the grade for their families to be safety evacuated for their homes, and to see when they might be able to return home.One resident of the Shoshone Falls area KMVT talked to said he told Twin Falls County Sheriffs the fire was started by a group of people who were shooting fireworks out of their car into the brush as they were driving up the grade.He also said that residents and visitors were trapped down below as fire crews worked to contain the fire, before they could safety evacuate people from the area.,The resident ended his conversation with KMVT by saying the fire from his vantage point was about 4 acres big and about 90 percent contained when he was escorted out of the area by the Twin Falls Police Department around 11 p.m.At this time there are no reports of anyone being hurt or injured in the incident or any homes being damaged by the fire.Copyright 2020 KMVT/KSVT.
