I think the author of this article really likes the word "splashdown". It's used very literally but without much explanation, which makes things a bit confusing. It's the first water landing of American astronauts in 45 years, not landing period. Overall, the article has some cool facts about the recent landing, it just really likes to point out that SpaceX is owned by Musk and doesn't explain fully why this landing is unique.
