Cincinnati EnquirerIf you were eagerly awaiting August scrimmages for your football or soccer teams in Ohio, your wait just got longer.The Ohio High School Athletic Association announced the suspension of fall sports scrimmages in contact sports for 2020 Tuesday evening. The announcement was distributed by Interim Executive Director Bob Goldring.The fall contact sports are football, soccer, field hockey and cross country."We do not anticipate that suspension changing soon and there remains the possibility that no scrimmages will be permitted in the contact sports of football, soccer and field hockey," Goldring wrote.&nbsp;"We will certainly keep you updated if that changes."Goldring also mentioned talks were ongoing trying to get field hockey and/or cross country placed in the non-contact category, which would allow more opportunities.Previously, the for all sports, pending Governor Mike DeWine clearing the way with a green light. As things stand now, only the non-contact sports of golf, tennis and volleyball will be afforded scrimmages.Still, the OHSAA points to an Aug. 1 start date. Lt. Gov. Jon Husted is still scheduled to meet with the Ohio High School Football Coaches Association on Aug. 4.
