Apparently when the bike lanes were built, no one in charge thought that car drivers would overtake the lanes, let alone stop altogether and force cyclists onto the streets they’re trying to avoid.Soon, however, drivers who park in bike lanes could face a fine. The city is to give bike lane enforcement some teeth, including fines and towing.Wilson Calvert, who runs the Twitter account , says the ordinance is a step in the right direction.“It is common sense to me that you shouldn't park in a bike lane, but it happens so regularly that I rarely go on a ride when the lane isn't blocked at some point,” Calvert said.He worries that even if fines are applicable to anyone who parks in the bike lanes, it might take the city some time to respond to complaints.Only time will tell if bicyclists or drivers prevail in this fight.jay.jordan@chron.com
