This is what it would’ve been like to shop 100 years ago (if Nike had existed then) during the “Roaring Twenties,'' which was a time of great profit for many Americans. Today those sneakers would be worth $128.90, which is crazy to think about because that means the value of an American dollar has been inflated by around 1000%. In current times, 10 dollars is used to buy things like fast food, not a pair of Nike sneakers. As time continues to degrade the value of the dollar bill, there is great uncertainty of what will happen in the future because the time value of money is forever changing. What will people go to as a source of reliable stability as their income increases?The answer is the money you have right now. This may be confusing at first but it's truly straight forward. With inflation rates rising at 2.59% per year, it’s evident that the dollar value of today won’t resemble the one of tomorrow, which means that within just a two-year span an one-dollar bill would be worth six dollars And although you may be thinking that just having that one-dollar bill saved in your pocket for 2 years would magically change into six dollars once you deposit it, that is not how it works. Whether it’s real estate or cryptocurrency, the key to make inflation work for you is by investing.But inflation can hurt your investments just as much as it can help them. Inflation has the ability to decrease the value of your investments. Luckily, there are ways to protect yourself from inflation. For example, assets such as leveraged loans, real estate income, and gold are ideal during inflationary climates.
