SO JUST BEFORE PRETTY BIG GROUP OF PEOPLE WERE SCRUBBING AWAY ON THIS. JACK LIVES MATTER MURAL AFTER SOMEBODY KIND OF POURED RED PAINT ALL OVER IT SPECIFICALLY IN THIS SECTION. YOU CAN SEE THE WATER AND SUDS THESE PEOPLE I WAS SPEAKING WITH WHO ARE NOW CHANTING TELL ME THEY BELIEVE SOMEBODY WAS DRIVING IN A CAR AND KIND OF POURED THE PAINT OUT CARLY IF WE COULD SHOW THE TIRE TRACKS OF THE PAINT HERE. SO THAT’S WHAT THEY’RE THINKING RIGHT NOW THAT SOMEBODY CAME BY AND KIND OF THROUGH THE PAINT OUT OF THE CAR. THEY JUST TOLD ME THAT THE PERSON WHO DID THIS DID THEIR HOMEWORK BECAUSE THEY’VE BEEN SCRUBBING THIS FOR A LONG TIME NOW AND IT’S JUST NOT COMING. OUT TO A FEW OF THE ARTISTS THAT WORKED ON THIS PIECE KIND OF CAME DOWN OR THINKING OF A PLAN RIGHT NOW TO RECONSTRUCT IT AND MAKE IT WHAT IT WAS A LOT OF PEOPLE REALLY DEVASTATED BY THIS AS YOU CAN SEE A LOT OF THESE PEOPLE I RECOGNIZED FROM THE PEACEFUL PROTESTS OR HERE CHANTING BLACK LIVES MATTER HOLDING SIGNS THIS MURAL A LOT OF PEOPLE PUT A LOT OF HARD WORK INTO IT A 17 TEAMS OF AFRICAN-AMERICAN ARTISTS WORKED ON THIS MURAL RIGHT NOW CINCINNATI POLICE ARE AWA AWARE THAT THIS HAPPENED THEY ASKED ANYONE WITH FORMATION ON WHO DID THIS TO CONTACT CRIMESTOPPERS IMMEDIATELY REPORTING LIVE DOWNTOWN TONIGHT. Police said they are aware of the incident and are currently looking into it. On Tuesday evening, after reviewing surveillance footage, Cincinnati police released a video of a person dumping the red paint on the mural. They also shared a photo of the person, who they said is a suspect in the case. The subject is seen wearing a black hat, a white shirt and a facial covering. Cincinnati police said the incident happened on Sunday at around 2:20 a.m.Protesters gathered at the mural after the incident chanting “Black Lives Matter” and they blocked the intersections with cars. Groups of people are attempting to clean the paint off, but have struggled to remove the paint. A few of the artists who worked on the piece are thinking of a plan to reconstruct the mural and return it to its original form. The mural spans an entire city block in front of City Hall and was officially dedicated on June 19.The mural was created by 17 teams of African American artists, one team handling each letter of the design. In total, about 60 to 70 artists were involved with the creation. Cincinnati councilmember Greg Landsman said the city needs to work on fixing the damage and preventing it from happening again in the future."What happened to the Black Lives Matter Mural is terrible and we need a fix quickly. We've been working with the Administration and Councilman Pastor on a fix, how to turn this section of Plum into a pedestrian friendly plaza, and how to allow the artists to fix the mural. We need to let people enjoy it without being worried about traffic," Landsman said.Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 513-352-3040.
