While I don’t really order Indian that often back home, for some reason I can’t get enough of it here and, thankfully, there are a surprising number of decent places that live up to my exacting expectations (lol).If you’re looking for the best Indian food in Mexico City—from classic curries to spicy biryanis and most things in between—here are the 9 restaurants and vendors you need to check out.DAWAT | Nueva York 154, Del ValleThis* is my absolute favourite Indian restaurant in Mexico City, even though the prices make it something of an infrequent treat kinda place. Of the dishes I’ve tried, the chicken tikka masala and chicken kali mirch are the best, but the chicken biryani is also really delicious. I always buy extra whenever I order to enjoy the next day, although one Dawat dish generally lasts me for two meals. &nbsp;*I say ‘this’, but there are actually two branches—one in Del Valle and another in Polanco.ROYAL INDIA | Homero 1500, PolancoRoyal India is my second fave Indian spot if I’m looking for Indian food akin to the type I’d get in the UK. Again, the chicken tikka is great but I also have very pedestrian taste in curry. I’ve never been to the restaurant itself, but I hear from reliable sources that it’s a nice spot to dine in at too. &nbsp;MITHAI SHOPThis is one place that’s advertised heavily across both Facebook and Instagram, and from what I gather the (online-only) Mithai Shop is all about the Indian sweets and snacks. Think: barfi and gulab jamun. The downside? Delivery is pretty pricy by the looks of it, but I’ve been eyeing up their sweets sampler tray for a while now.LONCHERIA SUVAI | Concepción Beistegui 619, Del ValleFormerly known as Neibhourhood Kitchen, Loncheria Suvai is a relatively new addition to Mexico City’s dining scene. With a range of South Indian lunch dishes—including filling tiffins, pakodas, samosas, biryanis and beyond—this is one of the most delicious and affordable spots to order Indian food in Mexico City. I personally really love the spicy chicken biryani with raita.DHAKA BIRIYANI | Kansas 13, NápolesI haven’t eaten here yet, but I’ve heard good things about Dhaka Biriyani, an Indian and Bangladeshi restaurant in Nápoles. The shazlek looks very interesting but, let’s be real, I’ll probably end up ordering a balti. &nbsp;NAAN | Santa María la Ribera 12, Santa María la RiberaPre-pandemic, I paid a quick visit to Naan, a meat-free Indian restaurant in Santa María la Ribera which offers nice lunch options that include a main, side, rice and drink. If you want entirely veggie/ vegan dishes, including lentil, tamarind and almond curries, this is the spot. I wouldn’t say they do my favourite curry in the city, but it’s certainly up there, especially if you’re on more of a budget.CURRY CURRY CURRYAnother (sort of) online-only Indian eatery, Curry Curry Curry actually advertises their dishes over Facebook and each dish comes pre-prepared. All you have to do is gently reheat. I’ve ordered from here once and I remember it being really filling and flavourful. I also like that there’s a mix of fish, meat, and veggie dishes available, as well as kathi rolls and other sides.MASALA Y MAÍZ | Marsella 72, JuárezA hybrid Mexican-Indian restaurant, I ate in person at Masala y Maíz when it was in its old location down in San Miguel Chapultepec. It’s since relocated to la Juárez, which is probably a lot more convenient for most visitors. The spiced esquites are delicious, as is the soft-shell crab. Masala y Maíz is probably most famous for the fried chicken though, which was great in the restaurant but arrived a lil burnt when I ordered delivery.
