Skip to contentPOUGHKEEPSIE – A 50-year-old convicted murderer is going back to prison after pleading guilty to gun and drug charges in Dutchess County Court on Wednesday.&nbsp; Rasheem Thomison’s latest convictions are related to a February traffic stop in Poughkeepsie where he was found in possession of more than eight grams of cocaine packaged for sale and a 9mm ghost gun.Dutchess County Senior Assistant District Attorney Scott Johnson asked for Thomison to be classified as a “Persistent Violent Felon” and Judge McLoughlin agreed.&nbsp; As a result of the classification, Thomison was subjected to additional prison time.After losing pre-trial motions, Thomison pled guilty and Judge McLoughlin sentenced the felon to 20 years to life for criminal possession of a weapon, 12 years for one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance, and eight years in prison on another count of criminal possession of a controlled substance.The weapons conviction includes an order of protection for one of the witnesses and each of the drug convictions includes three years of post-release supervision.Citing the professionalism of the City of Poughkeepsie Police, Johnson told Mid-Hudson News, “Sergeant Greg Schwarznegger and his officers turned a potentially fatal encounter into a textbook traffic stop,” adding “It is easy to see how that night could have ended tragically.”&nbsp; Of the defendant and the sentence, Johnson noted the guilty plea saved the taxpayers the cost of a trial and stated “The community is undoubtedly safer because of the sentence.”Thomison’s criminal history and prison time include:&nbsp;Serving New York’s Hudson Valley and Catskill for over 23 YearsWe’re the news source where other reporters get their newsContact Us:Newsroom:Advertising:Publisher:&nbsp;&nbsp;Copyright 2023 ©&nbsp;&nbsp;NY Newswire LLC&nbsp;| All rights reserved.
