Hey guys! Today we are going to be talking about how to deep condition curly hair!I’ll be honest, for about the first year or so of my curly hair journey, I completely skipped deep conditioning. I didn’t think that it would do much of anything. I was slathering my hair in conditioner every wash, why did I need to do yet ANOTHER conditioning?Boy was I wrong! I now know just how big of a game-changer deep conditioning really is when it comes to curls!For the last year or so, I have really been making it a point to get my deep conditioning in + making sure I’m using a good quality deep conditioner. Most curlies find that during the warmer months, deep conditioning once a week is enough.Then in the colder months, twice a week is what they find their curls need. Also, unhealthy hair will need deep conditioning more frequently than very healthy hair.As a rough rule of thumb, I say follow the directions on your deep conditioner label. You may find that your curls need more/less time, but the label is always the best place to start.Typically, deep conditioners stay in the hair for between 10-30 minutes. I personally find that about 30 minutes is what usually works for me.Play around with the amount of time you’re leaving your deep conditioner in to find what works best for you!My short answer-I wouldn’t recommend it. Leaving a deep conditioner in overnight may be too much for your hair to handle. This could cause it to become over-moisturized or go into protein overload.
