Officers from Staffordshire Police were called to a collision on the northbound carriageway of the A38 near Burton on Monday, October 2, at around 6.30pm. Police say a silver Vauxhall van was involved in a collision with a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a man in his 50s, was taken to hospital by ambulance after suffering serious injuries, reports Staffordshire Live. He remains in a critical but stable condition and is believed to have sustained life-changing injuries. The road was closed in both directions while emergency services worked at the scene. Poll: Do you ride a bike in Derby? Officers reopened the southbound carriageway to ease traffic flow shortly after and then re-opened the northbound road at around 11.30pm. A force spokesperson said: "We would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding following a significant period of disruption in the area on October 2. "Collision investigators are keen to speak with any witnesses, particularly those who might have dashcam footage of the area at the time. Call 101, quoting incident 600 of 2 October, or message us using the live chat [function] on our website." A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 6.39pm on Monday to an incident on the A38 Branston in Burton on Trent. One ambulance, a paramedic officer, a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic and a critical care car from Midland Air Ambulance attended the scene. "Upon arrival we found a man in a critical condition. He received advanced trauma care from ambulance staff at the scene and was conveyed to Royal Stoke University Hospital with continued treatment en route."
