×An Amish cookbook is simply a book with a collection of recipes that are made by the Amish. Many of the recipes have been handed down through several generations. And most of their cookbooks are a compilation of family recipes, or a church group where every family contributes a few of their favorite recipes.Typically you'll find a lot of traditional Amish recipes in their cookbooks, along with a few modern recipes that have an Amish twist (such as enchiladas, etc.).Find My Amish Heritage Recipe Book HereNo, Amish recipes are not all the same. If you get a collection of ten different Amish cookbooks, you may end up with twenty different recipes for Amish white bread, fifteen different recipes for chocolate chip cookies, etc.The different recipes are probably going to be somewhat similar, but everyone has their own twist and their own version of the recipe.So just because you've had Amish whoopie pies before, and you find a recipe that you want to try, it doesn't mean that they'll turn out to be exactly like the ones you found at an Amish bakery.I've tried lots and lots of recipes from different Amish recipe books before. Some recipes turn out great, others leave something to be desired, and I go in search of a better one.The women do most of the cooking in Amish communities. They are used to cooking at least two or three meals a day for their family, and they also have many family and church gatherings. So they're used to cooking for large groups of people as well.They cook hearty meals with lots of delicious side dishes, breads, salads, and desserts. And many of the Amish women share recipes. Maybe they already have a recipe that they use for making banana bread, etc. But they feel like their friend's recipe is better, so they'll ask for her recipe. And it's always an honor to share a recipe because that means they enjoyed your food.So a lot of recipes get passed back and forth among Amish women. And there are plenty of variations of the same dish.Since starting my blog about my Amish Heritage a couple of years ago, I have tested and tried many different Amish recipes.Quite a few recipes on my blog (such as my moist carrot cake recipe - that has gotten many wonderful reviews) are recipes that I grew up with. They are delicious, tried and true recipes. So I really don't have to test them since I already know that they are great recipes.A few of the recipes had to be cut down to produce a smaller quantity. (My shoofly pie is a perfect example of this. The recipe I used said it made five to six 8" pies. I cut it down to two 9" pies. But recently I had two people tell me that their pies were not full enough, so I adjusted the recipe to make fuller pies. And this adjustment was made since publishing my cookbook. So if you want fuller pies, you will need to go to my shoofly pie post for the updated version.)Some dishes I've made without a recipe. Therefore, I had to measure and get specific amounts so I could share them.Other recipes that I've shared are ones that I've found in my collection of Amish cookbooks. Sometimes I find identical recipes in several different books, and then I figure it must be a good one.Other times I add my own twists to recipes I find, to try and make them more flavorful, etc. Extra seasonings are always optional.I am constantly adding new recipes to my site, but to date, I have shared over 150 recipes. I have many wonderful followers who say they enjoy my recipes, and I am grateful to all of you for your support.Some of you enjoy using a good old-fashioned cookbook rather than having to get your recipes from an electronic device. So, for your convenience, I decided to put my recipes into a book form. And I also added a few of my favorite recipes, that I haven't shared on my blog.My recipes are not all traditional Amish recipes. Some of them are more modern, but trust me they are tasty.My Amish Heritage cookbook is now ready for sale. It contains 218 recipes, most of them being Amish recipes, along with a few of my personal favorites.My publishing company also added some cooking tips, helpful hints, substitutions, equivalents, etc. pages. I can't say that I necessarily endorse all of them, but there are some good tips.I enjoy cookbooks with photos, but they are more expensive to produce. Maybe someday I'll create one with photos.
